Joonmyun:
There was an unusual weight on his shoulder when he began to stir from his sleep and his back was cold as he began to reach around the bed blindly. Joonmyun frowned a little as he came up empty handed and he moved to sit up, but the sound of protesting mewls in his ear had him stopping and groaning softly. He had forgotten about the kitten in his sleep and it explained the warm, slightly sweaty spot on his neck and he wound up chuckling in a hoarse tone.
With careful fingers, he reached up and gently plucked the kitten from his shoulder and stroked gently down Squish’s back, smiling lightly. “Morning little one… how did you sleep?” he asked softly, his eyes crinkling a little. They were still slightly heavy with sleep, almost small slits, but he began to rub the sleep away with his free hand, looking around the bedroom for any signs of Jongin. He had no idea where his boyfriend had slipped off too, normally he would wake up to the younger boy watching him or working on his phone or laptop but not today.
For a brief moment, his hopes suddenly sunk. Jongin was known to take work at all hours of the day and he felt something akin to jealousy and hatred for his job clawing at him from the inside if it pulled Kai away from him for that day. It was his birthday, so he deserved at least a little time with Jongin right? If only for a short while. But one glance to the side had those fears dashed aside when he saw the black phone and he smiled slowly. Jongin never left without his phone.
Standing slowly, he stretched, watching as Squish toddled across the blankets towards him and he laughed softly. Joonmyun was already in love with the little ball of fur and he couldn’t stop smiling as he moved to scoop her up and head out of the bedroom, looking around tiredly for his lover. He made a confused sound when he heard bangs coming from the kitchen and arched an eyebrow as he made his way down, tipping his head to the side when he stepped into the dining area and he laughed softly. “Jongin?” he called out softly, hoping to garner his boyfriend’s attention.
The minutes passed and the counter was already splattered with spots of mix and a pile of eggshells. Beside Kai on the counter lay a plate of pancakes, some perfect and healthy pancakes and then there were the not so lucky ones that had turned an awful black color. Kai didn’t give up though. He was going to do this. He poured another spoonful of batter onto the pan and waited until it cooked slightly before flipping it.
Okay so maybe making pancakes was a little ambitious for him after all. He sighed as he tried to wipe come dough form his cheek not realizing that he just added some batter to it as well and jumped slightly when he heard his name called. He turned around and grinned when his eyes landed on his sleepy boyfriend, cat in hand, watching him.
“When’d you get up?” He asked and raised his hand, waving his spatula at Joonmyun. “I was making breakfast. Sit. It’s almost done.” he grinned and tried to hide the plate of burned pancakes, turning back to the pan. At least the eggs didn’t burn.
He quickly reached into the cabinet and pulled out a plate, scooping some scrambled eggs into it and picked through his pancakes, pulling out the best one and laid them on the plate as well, adding his fresh one as well which had turned and nice golden brown. That’s what they were supposed to look like right? He hoped so. He grabbed some butter and added it on top of the pile of pancakes and then grabbed the bottle of syrup he had managed to find and turned away from the stove, to show his boyfriend the plate.
“Sit.” He muttered and put it down on the small table, putting the syrup down beside it. “What do you want to drink with it?” He asked, rushing back to the counter to put some for himself as well, grabbing the rest of the okay looking ones and the rest of the eggs for himself and bringing his own plate to set it down next to Joonmyun’s.
